Flamenco guitarist Paco de Antequera killed in car crash

Madrid - One of Spain's best known flamenco guitarists, Paco de Antequera, has died in a car accident, the newspaper El Pais reported on Sunday.

The 62-year-old musician was killed when he crashed into a steel barrier while trying to avoid a traffic pile-up near Granada, the report said.

The guitarist, whose real name was Francisco Marquez Mendez, made numerous records and accompanied Spain's top flamenco dancers.

He was also popular with audiences in the United States and Japan.

Paco de Antequera mas married to a Japanese. The couple had two daughters. (kil/dpa)
